On Tuesday, February 2nd, Mr. Harvey Beasley, Consul of the Consulate General of the United States in Sapporo, gave a special lecture to fifty second year students. The Consul, who has been studying Japanese since high school, has studied abroad here in Japan, and he’s also resided in other countries such as China and India. During his lecture, he touched upon various topics. He introduced the role of the Consulate and discussed Japanese and American culture. He discussed the importance of understanding the difference between cultures and how people of different countries view each other. Students were shocked to find out how Americans perceived the Japanese! Here are some of the impressions that the students who attended the lecture had after the Consul’s lecture. “Now I totally want to visit the US!” “I think now more than ever I want to challenge myself and study abroad!” Details of Mr. Beasley’s visit were reported in Hokkaido Shinbun on February 3rd.
